ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Non-Ionic 5-C-substituted 2,4,6-triiodo-isophthalic acid derivatives of the general formula I Image (I) (in which X represents -CO.N.R1R2, -COOR3, -CH2.NH.R7 or -CH2OH, Y represents -N.R1R2 or -OR3, Z represents -N.R1R2, -NH.R7, or -OR3, R1,R2 and R3 in X, Y or Z, and R7 in X and Z, being iden- tical or different, R1 and R2, are identical or different, and each is hydrogen, C1-6-alkyl or C2-8-alkyl substituted by 1 to 5 hydroxyl groups and/or by one C1-3-alkoxy group; R3 is C1-4- alkyl or C2-4-alkyl substituted by 1 to 2 hydroxyl groups and/or by one C1-3-alkoxy group, and R7 is an acyl group of a C2-5 aliphatic carboxylic acid, or such an acyl group substituted by 1-4 hydroxyl groups and/or by one C1-3-alkoxy group. The com- pounds are suitable for use as X-ray contrast agents having a good general and local tolerability and are suitable for use in, for example, angiography and myelography; they may accordingly be made up into X-ray contrast preparations with physiologically tolerable carriers.
