CONTROL APPARATUS ABSTRACT A control device for enabling an operator to control some associated apparatus, for example an aircraft thrust demand unit or 'throttle-box' for controlling an engine of the aircraft, comprises a manually movable control member coupled to output means for transmitting control member position indicative signals to the associated apparatus, and also coupled to the mover part of an electrical stepper motor, which motor is so energised that it produces a force tending to resist, but not prevent, manual movement of the control member thereby providing say a constant 'feel' resistance to such movement and/or an augmented resistance to such movement whilst the control member is passing through one or more detent positions in its overall range of movement. Particularly but not exclusively in the case of an aircraft throttle box, the stepper motor energisation may be made such as to achieve actual driven movement of the control member, i.e. so as to provide automatic control of the associated apparatus, which movement is nevertheless overridable by the operator without mechanically or electrically disabling the motor.
