ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for preparing the pheromone amitinol readily and in good yield by eliminating R2SOnH from a compound of the formula Image (III) wherein R1 represents a conventional protecting group for the alcoholic hydroxy group, R2 represents an optionally substituted alkyl or phenyl group, and n is 1 or 2, to form a compound of the formula Image (II) and then removing the protecting group R1, from the alcoholic hydroxy group.
