ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A terminal for insulated elongate electrical con- ductors is formed of leaf-shaped resilient contact material having a slot forming a polytropic air gap for making solder- less, non-screwed and non-stripped contact with the con- ductor, and has first and second members, each having a body portion with an inner longitudinal slot wall, a cut- ting lance at the top of the slot wall, and a centering edge sloping generally upward from the cutting lance to the top of the body portion. The first and second members form the slot between the slot walls, the lances being in offset confronting relationship and the centering edges forming a V-shaped centering portion for guiding the con- ductor onto the lances and into the slot. Upon insertion of the conductor into the centering portion, the lances rip open the conductor insulation at offset and opposite locations, the size of the conductor, the width of the slot and the resilience of the slot walls determining the con- tact pressure of the terminal on the conductor.
