ABSTRACT The invention resides in an improved secon- dary rechargeable battery which comprises a substan- tially hermetically sealed housing having at least two and preferably three or more cells electrically con- nected in series. Each cell contains at least a pair of electrodes. At least one of said pair of electrodes is a commonly shared, unitary electrode, which extends between a pair of adjacent cells. The commonly shared electrode is constructed of a single material and of a size sufficient to form an electrically effective electrode in each of said adjacent cell, thus forming a positive electrode in one cell and a negative electrode in the adjacent cell. 33,311-F
