ABSTRACT A test person blows respiratory air into an instrument for measuring alcohol in the breath by way of a mouthpiece. Such mouthpieces must be used hygienically and must therefore, preferably, be replaceable for each test person and thus be designed for use once only. A mouthpiece disclosed herein comprises a mouth portion and a hollow connecting member which penetrates the base of the mouth portion and connects the mouthpiece to the measuring instrument. The mouthpiece may be an integral moulded part of polypropylene. The test person encircles the mouth portion with his lips and blows into the instrument by way of the hollow connecting member. A limiting flange on the mouth portion limits insertion into the mouth and further, keeps the outer surfaces, to be touched, free of salvia. The mouthpiece can be fitted with a non-return valve. A valve case in the mouth portion holds a valve reed which lifts itself elastic- ally from holes in the base of the valve case when the test person blows in, and subsides so as to close the valve when the test person inhales.
