ABSTRACT Simultaneous preparation of formic acid and one of or both the ethers tert.butyl-methylether and tert.amyl- methylether, by reacting tert.butanol and/or tert.amyl alcohol with methyl formate in the presence of acidic catalyst. Instead of or together with the mentioned alcohols it is also possible to use as starting material the olefines obtained by removing one molecule of water from the alcohols, in the presence of water.
