ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is described a train for the renewal of a railway switch or crossing. The renewal of railroad track devices for example switches is quite a complicated undertaking for the devices are very bulky components in respect to their width and handling them poses problems. An improved train for carrying out the renewal of railroad switches has first and second chassis each having running gear. The two chassis are spaced apart from one another a distance greater than the track-wise extent of a switch to be renewed. A girder is disposed between the chassis and extends length-wise of the track. A first crane is provided on the first chassis supporting a first end of the girder and a second crane is provided on the second chassis supporting a second end of the girder. Means is provided on the girder for gripping a switch to be renewed. One of the chassis has at each of its four corners a support means for running on a side rail and each of the support means includes a support arm articulated on the chassis for swinging about a vertical axis. A vertically extensible support column is provided at an outboard end of the support arm and an auxiliary bogie is provided on a lower end of the support column. Power means controlling the angular position of the support arm with respect to the chassis is provided as well as power means controlling the effective length of the support column between the support arm and the auxiliary bogie. In this fashion the support arms are swingable about their axes to vary the dis- tance of the support column from the longitudinal center line of the chassis and the support columns are extensible to support the chassis by the auxiliary bogies running on the side rails.
