ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A slide lock mechanism for restraining movement of the carriage of a disk drive comprises a rod slideably supported by the disk drive housing for movement between two rest positions. A lock pin, fastened to a shaft engaging said rod, is moveable between a lock and unlock position to bias a pin, fastened to the carriage, against a stop when the rod is in one of its rest positions. An over-center spring, fastened to the housing and rod biases the rod to its two rest positions.
