ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fine amorphous metallic wire having a circular cross section and stability to a bias magnetic field, said wire being composed of an alloy having the following composition formula (Co1-aFea)100-x-y-zSixByMnZ wherein x < 20 atomic%, 7 atomic% < y < 35 atomic%, 7 atomic% < x+y < 35 atomic%, 0.1 atomic% < z < 3 atomic%, and 0.01 < a < 0.1. The fine amorphous metallic wire has low magnetostriction, high magnetic permeability, high saturation magnetic flux density, and excellent toughness, and is stable against a bias magnetic field. Hence, it can be used as a material for electromagnetic devices such as a coordinate reading device, a current sensor, an eddy current sensor, a magnetic sensor, or a displacement sensor.
