ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Iron-core discs which together with intermediate layers disposed between the discs and yokes covering the discs at the end forming the iron core of multiphase chokes are often held together by metal tension elements symmetrically penetrating the iron-core discs. To reduce the alternating magnetic field strength occurring in the metal tension elements, these elements are surrounded according to the invention by a jacket made of a material having a very good electrical conductivity. The eddy currents pro- duced in the jacket thereby reduce the magnetic field strength in the interior of the tension element to a partial amount which is just sufficient to main- tain the eddy currents in the jacket. Tension elements which are encased in accordance with the invention make possible particularly economical arrangements in chokes with large electrical power outputs.
