ABSTRACT A sensor for mixing ratio of gasoline and alcohol comprising; a transparent column, each end of which is support by a grip while outer side surface of which is in contact with mixing liquid of gasoline and alcohol; light emitting diode and photo diode provided at one end and the other end of said column in generally aligning relationship with each other, so that the light emitted from the diode enters into said column through the end portion thereof and reflects at the boundary between the column and the liquid mixture of gasoline and alcohol; lengthwise and diametrical dimension of said column and mounting of said column being such that the light incident upon one end of said column and totally reflects only once at the boundary with the critical angle to reach the other end of said column within the liquid mixing ratio ranging from 100% to 0% and vice versa.
