ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a microbiologically produced L-phenyl-alanine dehydrogenase and to a process for re- covering it from Brevibacterium species DSM 2448. The novel enz- yme can be used for the enzymatic conversion of phenyl pyrorace- mic acid, p-hydroxy-phenyl pyroracemic acid, indolyl pyroracemic acid or 2-keto-4-(methyl-mercapto) butyric acid into the corres- ponding L-.alpha.-amino-carboxylic acids.
