Abstract The invention provides bicyclic compounds of the general formula Image I wherein one of the symbols R1 and R2 represents hydrogen and the other represents hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted C1-4-alkyl group and X represents a substituted or un- substituted C1-3-alkanoyloxy group, an unsubstituted or substituted C3-7- -cycloalkylthio, C2-6-alkylthio or heterocyclylthio group or a sub- stituted C1-4-alkylthio or phenyl- thio group, their readily hydrolyzable esters, pharmaceutically com- patible salts as well as hydrates of these compounds. The involution also provides processes for the manu- facture of these substances and their use in the treatment or prophylaxis of infectious diseases, as well as inter- mediates usable in the manufacturing process.
