ABSTRACT Disclosed is a plastic fastener apparatus comprising a head, a shank and a drive pin, the head and shank being integrally formed with an axial bore traversing through the head and extending throughout the shank. The shank includes a cylindrical portion and a bifurcated portion at the distal end which defines a pair of radially movable leg members separated by a laterally extending slot. Helically, externally disposed screw threads are on at least a portion of the bifurcated portion. A pair of first grooves is formed the length of the head and the shank in an outward direction along the axial bore in alignment with the pair of leg members and a pair of second grooves is formed in an outward direction along the axial bore through the head and the cylindrical shank portion and in direct alignment with the lateral slot. The axial bore has a conical configuration along the bifurcated portion which tapers to a smaller cross-section towards the distal end. The drive pin has a length slightly less than the length of the axial bore and has a central body portion with the same uniform cross-section along its entire length and of the same shape and slightly smaller size than the portion of the axial bore which traverses through the head and the cylindrical portion of the shank. The drive pin further includes a pair of first rib members projecting radially from the central body portion which are located to cooperate in a complementary manner with the pair of first grooves to cause each of the first rib members to ride in a track formed by respective first grooves, and a pair of second rib members projecting radially from the central body portion which are located to cooperate in a complementary manner with the slot in the bifurcated portion.
