ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder, a cylinder head, a piston with a combustion chamber having a conical side wall tapered toward a throat, and an injec- tion nozzle for delivring fuel to the side wall of the combustion chamber, the injection nozzle being disposed with an eccentricity with respect to the throat centre. An angle ? between projections, onto the cross sec- tion of the combustion chamber, of a pair of adjacently spaced outlets for delivering fuel to the closest to the injection nozzle section of the side wall of the combustion chamber is 1.8-2.2 times as large as an angle .delta. between the projections, onto the same plane, of axes of any pair of adjacently spaced outlets for delivering fuel to the farthermost from the injection nozzle section of the combustion chamber side wall. The engine according to the invention has the advanta- ges of providing a fuel economy which is 3-5 per cent higher as compared to conventional engines of this type; besides, the engine has a lower gas temperature at the exhaust from the cylinders and operates reliably when supercharge-rated. Furthermore, the lifetime of pistons in the engine according to the invention is longer, due to no cracking arising on the edge of the combustion chamber throat.
