Abstract of the disclosure: The novel silver catalysts contain 3 to 20% by weight of silver and 0.003 to 0.05% by weight of potas- sium, rubidium, cesium or a mixture thereof as promoter on a heat-resistant porous support material, all weight percentages being relative to the weight of the cata- lyst and the silver and the promoter having been applied to the support material by several impregnating steps. The novel silver catalysts are advantageously used for preparing ethylene oxide.
