Abstract of the Disclosure A transfer arrangement for stepwise advancement of work- pieces includes gripper rails, each of which is constituted by at least one machine-sided gripper rail section, and at least one tool-sided gripper rail section, which are connected to one another by a coupling mechanism in a rigid but selectively releasable manner. A clamping rod which extends in its clamping or engagement position across a separating location between the associated gripper rail sections serves as a connecting element of the coupling mechanism. The clamping rod has a clamping head which engages behind a holding surface of an end portion of one gripper rail section, while being carried by the other gripper rail section. The clamping rod is supported in the other of the gripper rail sections for axial displacement and for rotation, and can be tensioned in its coupling position between the then coupled gripper rail sections. In one of its rotated positions, in which the clamping head of the clamping rod is out of contact and out of alignment with the holding surface of the end portion, the clamping rod can be extracted out of its engagement position to provide for a trouble-free separation of the gripper rail sections from one another.
