ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of increasing the xylene (BTX) content in the raw pyrolysis gasoline (RPG) of a thermally cracked effluent is provided. A heavy hydrocarbon is partially cracked in a conventional pyrolysis furnace, while ethane is also cracked, at high conversion, in the same furnace. The cracked effluent from the ethane is thereafter delivered to the heavy hydrocarbon stream, and serves as a diluent to effect complete cracking of the heavy hydrocarbon and ethane.
