ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a process for the con- trolled production of silica by means of flame hydrolysis in which the thickening effect can be adjusted independently of the BET surface area of the silica obtained. This is attained by introducing additional water vapour either into the reaction mix- ture or into the reaction flame.
