- 16 - ADJUSTABLE-BLADE RUNNER Abstract An adjustable-blade runner comprises blades mounted in a hub having a diaphragm adapted to receive bearing surfaces of the blade trunnions. Each of the blades is operatively connected with a movable member mounted for reciprocation in the direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the runner in a guide inside the runner hub. The movable member is rigidly connected with an actuating member of a drive for rotating the blades, provided with a discharge channel. Mounted inside the runner hub in coaxial arrangement with the first guide is a second guide so that an annular space is formed between the opposite end faces of the guides to accommodate a packing unit. The diaphragm is provided with an appliance intended to isolate the area of the discharge channel from the area of location of the blades.
