ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A self feeding furnace for the combustion or coal and the like consisting of a housing having a bottom, side walls, a first end and a second end. A platform is spaced from the bottom of the housing. The platform is movable longitudinally in relation to the first and second end of the housing. A wedgeshaped guide having an inclined leading edge and a trailing butt end is secured between the side walls of the housing with the leading edge immediately adjacent the platform facing the first end of the housing. An auger is secured to the first end of the housing whereby coal may be fed from a hopper onto the platform. A swing gate is positioned at the second end of the housing. A drive motor is provided for moving the platform back and forth in a reciprocating motion. As the platform moves toward the second end of the housing burning coal which has accumulated at the first end of the platform is directed up the inclined leading edge of the wedge. As the platform moves toward the first end of the housing burning coal which has travelled ever the wedge is pushed toward the second end of the housing by the butt end of the wedge. The burning coal is ultimately reduced to ash and pushed through the swing gate.
