Abstract: The drive mechanism for a rotating part, in particular a vehicle axle, possesses at least one digital-mechanical drive comprising an active wedge and means, which as determined by their design or optionally can be powered by various forms of energy, and which act directly or via energy storage reservoirs to produce impulses which are proportional to the linear or angular displacement of the drive. One such drive mechanism is used in muscle-powered vehicles or in stationary mechanisms. It consists of a mechanical impulse drive which as determined by the design or optionally can be powered by muscle power and/or a gaseous pressure medium. In such a drive a pump (6) taps off some of the drive energy to fill a pressure reservoir. A switching valve (19) and a work element permit supplementary pulse force to be supplied from a power-reinforcing unit. This impulse drive, which is digital in character, provides direct driving power in the form of mechanical impulses generated by muscular effort. It stores surplus energy and makes it available as required to supplement the muscular effort.
