Abstract A method of inoculating basidiospores of mushroom (Lentinus edodes) is disclosed. At least one transverse saw cut is made on the exterior surface of a piece of host wood with a suitable depth, thereby forming an inoculation recess. A substantially flat, generally half-moon shaped piece of wood with seed basidiospores cultured thereon, known as a seed basidiospore bed is inserted into the inoculation recess. A culture container comprising a capped half- split screwed bottle-like body is suitable for incubation and storage of seed basidiospore beds. A cutting apparatus, designed to efficiently cut several transverse inoculation recesses in the host wood simultaneously by the use of multiple saws on swingable arms is also disclosed.
