- 19 - POWER TRANSMISSION SYSTEM FOR A WINDMILL ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A power transmission for communicating from the propellor shaft of a windmill to a power drive shaft ex- tended vertically downwardly from the top of the windmill is arranged to prevent the communication of torque ap- plied to the power drive shaft into rotation of the pro- pellor shaft around the vertical axis while allowing the propellor shaft to rotate around the vertical axis to accomodate changes in wind direction. Specifically the power transmission includes a pair of right angle bevel gear boxes arranged such that the propellor shaft drives two of the bevel gears in opposite directions. One of the bevel gears communicates through a ratchet directly to the power drive shaft and the other bevel gear commun- icates through a ratchet and the second bevel gear box to the drive shaft.
