ABSTRACT A compound of the formula I: Image wherein B is an -NH-group linking the group C to the benzene ring which may or may not be in the para position relative to the azide group; C is an hydrocarbyl amine moiety including at least five carbon atoms; D is a ligand or hapten; and R1 to R4, which may be the same or different, are selected from H, alkyl of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, NO2, halide group, carboxylic acid group or amino group, and acid addition salts thereof. The compounds may be used as intermediates in the preparation of non-radioactive biological probes. - 1 -
