Provided is the crystalline monohydrate of 7.beta.- [2'-(R)-2'-phenyl-2'-aminoacetamido]-3-chloro-3-(1-carba- dethia-cephem)-4-carboxylic acid, of Formula (I): Image (I) and pharmaceutical formulations thereof. The crystalline monohydrate is a valuable antibiotic of superior pharmaceutical elegance which is stable over a wide relative humidity range; it can be prepared from aqueous solutions of the above compound of Formula (I) by adjusting the pH to from 2 to 6.
