Abstract of the disclosure A resinous composition for coating use comprising (A) a melamine resin having a monomeric content of 50% or more and a degree of etherification of 5 or more, 80% or more of the ether groups contained being methylated methylol groups, and (B) an aliphatic or alicyclic, linear structured compound having an average molecular weight of 100 to 1000 and bearing end hydroxyl groups, in a solid weight ratio of (A) to (B) of 3/7 to 7/3. The present resinous composition is specifically useful as a resinous vehicle in a top coat paint or clear coat for automobile body, electric appliance and the like.
