ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Human insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) is produced by culturing an organism containing therein a plasmid which includes a synthetic IGF-I gene and a promoter gene upstream of and adjacent to the IGF-I gene to control expression of IGF-I gene, in which the synthetic IGF-I gene codes for the expression of IGF-I, wherein IGF-I consists 70 amino acids in the following sequence: Image and the promoter gene has no structural gene, and recovering IGF-I as a non fused peptide from the culture broth; IGF-I has insulin-like potency and stimulation potency of sulfate- uptake by cartilage.
