Abstract This invention relates to the belt portion of a pneumatic tire, particularly a heavy-duty pneumatic tire which has improved corrosion and impact resistance. The belt portion of the tire has an outermost belt layer which comprises steel cord each having two inner cords surrounded by seven outer cords, and a tenacity per cord in the range: (1700 to 2050) d1.872 Kgf/cord where d is the diameter of the inner and outer cords and is in the range 0.28 to 0.40 mm. Each steel cord is coated with rubber.
