ABSTRACT An analogue/digital telecommunications subscriber station A wide-band hybrid circuit G enables multiplexing (MUL) and demultiplexing (DEX) of an analogue telephone band (3KHz) channel and a digital channel (e.g. 64 or 80 kbit/s) above the telephone band. Appropriate switching (UDE,UDS,UAE and UAS) can then enable the subscriber station T1 n to provide a variety of facilities (DEE,Dee) in addition to the normal speech circuit (M,H). Also the latter can be switched via the digital channel using a coder CO and decoder DEC. This can be used to enable a party station to provide one subscriber with digital speech communication while the other uses the normal analogue channel. Additional channels above and below the telephone band can be provided. The wide-band hybrid circuit may take various forms. (Fig. 1)
