ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides an apparatus for forming a molded drum from a tubular parison of thermoplastic material, the molded drum having spaced end walls and at least one side wall extending between the end walls and at least one roller chime extending generally radially out- wardly from the side wall, the roller chime having a first leg extending radially outwardly from the side wall of the molded drum and a second leg extending transversely from the outer end of the first leg generally in the same direc- tion as the side wall of the molded drum and radially out- wardly therefrom, comprising: (a) a side member having a first surface for forming the axial extending lateral side surface of the molded drum, a shoulder extending transverse to the first surface for forming the first leg of the roller chime, and a second surface positioned radially out- wardly from said first surface for forming the second leg of the roller chime; (b) an end member for forming one end wall of the molded drum, the end member extending generally transversely of the side member and havi=g a first surface in siding contact with the second surface of the side member, the end member capable of being displaced from a first car opened position to a second or closed position during the formation of the roller chime, the end member while in a first position in cooperation with the side member during the blow molding formation of the molded drum forming an annualr channel-shaped portion in the side wall of the molded drum with the opening of the channel-shaped portion directed generally toward the interior of the mold drum, the end member upon displacement toward the shoulder of the side member to the second position forming the second leg of the roller chime chime; and (c) each end member and side member being con- figures and in cooperation with each other forming a first recess and a second, extension recess communicating therewith, such that upon displacement of the end member from its first to its second position toward the shoulder of the side member, the wall of the channel-shaped portion is squeezed into the first recess to form the second leg of the roller chime, and excess material is squeezed into the second recess so as to form a detachable extension having a dimension in accord- ance with the varying supply of material in the body of the molded drum as measured about the circumference of the drum and sufficient such that the cross-sectional configuration of the roller chime is uniform about the circumference of the drum.
