26982-28 Process for the hydrogenation of coal by means of sump phase hydrogenation an catalytic fixed bed hydrogenation ABSTRACT A process for the hydrogenation of coal by means of sump phase hydrogenation and catalytic fixed bed hydrogenation, whereby the overhead products of the hot separator are fed directly and together with the entire high-pressure cycle gas to a reactor containing a fixed catalyst bed. The recycle oil required for producing the coal paste is essentially recovered from the discharge products of the latter reactor by partial condensation and with the use of an intermediate separator. The products leaving from the top of the intermediate separator with the entire high-pressure cycle gas still present are further treated in another fixed bed reactor.
