ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: 4,4-Disubstituted 5-methylene-1-3-dioxolan-2- ones I (I) Image where R1 is a C1-C40 organic radical and R2 is C1-C4-alkyl, and R1 and R2 may furthermore be bonded to form a 5-membered or 6-membered ring, are prepared by reacting a prop-1-yn-3- ol R1R2C(OH)-C?CH (II) with CO2, a copper salt and a tertiary base by a method in which a quaternary ammonium or phospho- nium salt is used concomitantly.
