ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus for regenerating a catalyzed particulate filter in the exhaust stream of a combustion source (particularly a diesel engine) are provided that do not necessitate heating of the exhaust stream from the combustion source. Unburnt fuel is supplied to the filter,in a variety of ways, above the light-off temperature of the filter, casuing an exotherm which ignites the particulates stored by the filter.
