Abstract of the Disclosure An apparatus for containing and feeding particulate material tending to pack into a mass. An elongated hopper has opposed walls sloping to a restricted outlet leading to a conveyor. At a zone spaced centrally above the outlet is a flow inducing device including a pair of spaced-apart baffle walls which extend in an up and down direction to form an open-ended passage. The passage has an inlet leading from a middle zone in the hopper and an outlet spaced above the hopper outlet. There are gates along the outlet for closing and opening the outlet. There may be a flange extending laterally from each baffle wall to provide a pressure barrier to material therebeneath. A method of incuding flow of particulate material from an elongated hopper having opposed sides sloping downward towards an outlet to a conveyor. The outlet is opened progressively to allow escape of the material while dividing the material centrally in the up and down direction into a plurality of streams leading to the outlet.
