ABSTRACT A novel shape selective metal catalyst can be prepared by incorporating a metallic catalyst component such as platinum, palladium, or nickel into a particular type of zeolite, and by then reducing the combined metal-zeolite in the presence of unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds with or without hydrogen at high temperatures. Zeolites employed in such catalysts are those having a silica to alumina mole ratio of at least 12 and a Constraint Index within the approximate range of 1 to 12.
