Abstract of the Disclosure A sticker placing apparatus (10) is described for automatically feeding stickers (14) for placement between board layers (13) on a lumber stack (12). The stickers (14) are delivered to selected sticker stations to one side of the stack (12) by an elongated conveyor (16). The present placing apparatus (10) then functions to lift select stickers (14) from the sticker stations (18) on the conveyor (16), upward and laterally to sticker transfer positions (24) where the sticker (14) can be moved to positions under a layer of boards being placed on the stack. The stickers (14) are pivoted up and laterally from the stations (18) to the transfer positions (24) by pivoted sticker supports (40) on a linearly reciprocating carriage (28). Cam mechanisms (42) on the frame and followers (48) on the sticker supports (40) cause elevational movement of the supports in response to reciprocating motion of the carriage (28). The individual cam mechanisms (42) can be made inoperative by a lockout mechanism (56) so a sticker will not be delivered to its designated transfer positions.
