A B S T R A C T The invention relates to imidazo[1,2-a] pyridines of the general formula Image wherein R2 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, trifluoromethyl, B-CF3; B-Ar, Ar, B-halogen, BOR8, B-SO(n)-loweralkyl, BO?-R1, Image ; R3 represents loweralkyl, BCN, BOR8, BO?-R1, Image Image B-NO2, B-halogen or, provided R2 is not hydrogen, hydrogen; X is hydrogen, loweralkyl, halogen, hydroxy, trifluoro- methyl or loweralkoxy; Z represents O, S, SO, SO2, NR6 or a single bond between the group T-Ar and position 8 of the imidazo [1,2-a]pyridine nucleus; T represents a single bond between Z and Ar or a branched or straight alkylene group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms with no more than 5 binding carbon atoms between Z and Ar; and Ar represents phenyl, pyridyl, thienyl, furanyl, imidazolyl or X'-, Y'- and/or Z'-substituted phenyl wherein each of X', Y' and Z' independently is hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, CN, CF3, OH, NO2, Image or SO(m)-R1, with m being zero, one or two, whereby m represents two when R1 represents Image whereby in the above definitions B is a straight or branched chain lower alkylene group; n represents zero, one or two; R4 and R5 eacn independently represent hydrogen, loweralkyl, loweralkyl, loweralkoxyloweralkyl trifluoromethyllower- alkyl, Ar-loweralkyl, Ar, or, when taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached, form a 4- to 6-membered cyclic amino- or a morpholino-group; R1 represents Ar, loweralkyl, Image or Ar-lower- alkyl; R6 represents hydrogen, C1- to C12-alkyl, aryl- or an aralkyl group having up to 12 carbon atoms. R7 represents hydrogen or loweralkyl and R8 represents hydrogen, loweralkyl,loweralkoxyloweralkyl, trifluoro- methylloweralkyl, Ar-loweralkyl or Ar.
