ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure teaches a method of electro- slag welding of light metals, In accordance with the method, parts to be welded are mounted with a required gap therebetween. A forming device and electrode are also mounted, and the gap is filled with a flux. A slag pool is set up, and the electrode is melted, the edges of the parts to be welded being welded with the formation of a metal pool. The metal pool is accumulated outside the gap above the edges being welded, and the metal pool is maintained in the liquid state. The gap is filled with the liquid metal after the termination of fusion of the electrode and accumu- lation of the metal pool in a volume required for filling the gap considering weld reinforcement. The method is practiced on a forming device which includes moulds provided with porous elements and constructed with stepped longitudinal grooves forming a supporting platform on which are disposed the porous elements. A container is disposed above the parts to be welded, the container being further provided with external and internal terminals and a jumper connecting the internal terminals. A container is further disposed under the parts to be welded which is provided with a transverse baffle member.
