Polyurethane/polyisocyanurate rigid foams having low thermal conductivity are prepared from isocyanate- terminated quasi-prepolymers prepared from polyester polyols derived from phthalic anhydride or from the transesterifica- tion of polyethylene terephthalate scrap, with a low molecular weight aliphatic polyol, preferably a low molecular weight glycol or triol. More particularly,the rigid foams are prepared by reacting the quasi-prepolymers in the presence of a trimerization catalyst, optionally in the presence of a polyol and urethane-promoting catalyst. The products have uses as building and refrigeration insulation.
