TITLE Extensometer INVENTOR John H. van der Kuur ABSTRACT A simple extensometer that allows remote sensing under harsh testing conditions, such as elevated temperatures. The apparatus uses two extension arms arranged such that there is no contact between the two linkages connecting the specimen to a strain measuring device, thereby avoiding friction, the major source of problems, namely high hysteresis and non-linearity.
