A novel hyaluronic acid consisting of a molecular weight fraction which is substantially-free of hyaluronic acid having a molecular weight less than 30,000 Daltons, or its pharmaceutically-acceptable salt, in association with a pharmaceutically-active substance, is provided herein. Such hyaluronic acid fraction together with the pharmaceutically-active substance is useful as a drug delivery system, for such pharmaceutically-active substance, for infra-ocular injection, or for infra- articular injection or for topical administration. When so used as a vehicle, the hyaluronic acid is substantially-free of inflammatory side effect when so administered.
