ABSTRACT FUNGICIDALLY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS Novel compounds of the general formula (I) Image (I) or an N-oxide, salt or metal salt complex thereof, wherein one or Ar1 and Ar2 represents an optionally substituted 6 membered heteroaromatic ring containing 1 or 2 nitrogen atoms and the other of Ar1 and Ar2 represents an optionally substituted 5 or 6 membered heterocyclic ring having 1 or 2 heteroatoms or an optionally substituted phenyl group; R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl group, R2 represents a cyano group, a -COOH group or an ester or thioester thereof, or a group Image or Image wherein each of R4 and R5 independently represents a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl or phenyl group or R4 and R5 together with the interjacent nitrogen atom represent a hetero- cyclic ring and Y represents a halogen atom; R3 represents a cyano group, a COOH group or an ester or thioester thereof, a hydroxy or thio group, or a group Image wherein R6 represents an optionally substituted alkyl or phenyl group, R7 represents an acyl group derived from a carboxylic acid, and R8 and R9 are as defined above for R4 and R5 exhibit fungicidal properties.
