ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel topical composition are provided herein. These compositions are for application to mammalian skin for increasing the rate of terminal hair growth in mammalian species. The compositions include an effective amount of a compound of Formula I: Image (I) in which the R1-substituted cyano-guanidyl radical is placed in the 3- or 4-position of the pyridine ring, in which R1 stands for a straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl radical having from 3 to 7 carbon atoms, or an aryl or an aralkyl radical, and in which R2 stands for hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl or alkoxy radicals, or of any of the stereoisomers thereof and mixtures of the same, or of a pharmaceutically-acceptable, acid addition salt thereof. Compounds of Formula I are provided in association with a topical, pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier, e.g., ointments, lotions, pastes, jellies, sprays, or aerosols.
