ABSTRACT A process For removing sulfur oxides from waste gas is provided. The gas is contacted with d sorbent selected from trona and activated sodium car- bonate and, utilizing an alkaline ammonia liquor so as to reduce the flow rates and loss of alkalinity, the spent sorbent is regenerated with an alka- line earth metal oxide or hydroxide.
