57,115 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a railroad truck, a forced steering system is disclosed for achieving optimal or near optimal wheel set alignment on both straight and curved track sections. Over- and under-steer on curves may be eliminated on curved track sections and oscillations are minimized or eliminated for trucks transiting straight track sections. A rigid frame and a means for suspension, both of which may be used in cooperation with the forced steering system are disclosed. The steering system comprises a link between the car body and the truck to direct a force, related to the relative orientation between the car body and the truck, to the wheel suspension system thereby altering the wheel set geometry in an optimal manner for both straight and curved track performance.
