A portable electronic device comprising a connector (42) for connection to a parent machine where a video game is played, a program memory (41a) stored with a game program downloaded from the parent machine, control means (41) for controlling the execution of the program, and display means (44) for displaying information according to the program to be executed, input means (43) for operating the program, and a cell (49) for supplying electric power to the means, wherein a game is played in a state where power supply from the parent machine is cut off according to the program downloaded from the parent machine.
