ABSTRACT It is common in devices for collecting and concentrating radiant energy to focus the rays to a small region. To be effective, such devices must face towards the source of the energy, usually the sun. I have found that by diverging the rays instead of converging them, the device can then face any direction, and does not need the sun as a source of energy. This factor gives my device the advantage of continuing to function whether or not the sun is shining. My device continues to function at night and in cool weather. The method consists of taking a bundle of rays that are converging on a point, and of reducing the angle of the convergence. If the rays are squeezed into one half the angle, for example, the concentration of radiation isdoubled. In my device the angle of convergence is reduced to a narrow line, thereby concentrating the radiant energy entering the device by a hundredfold or more. The receiving element is a boiler tube, from which the concentrated energy can be directed to a turbine for conversion to useful rotary energy.
