This invention discloses compositions and methods for inducing, promoting or otherwise facilitating pain relief. More particularly, the present invention discloses the use of sub- normovasodilatory doses of furoxan-containing nitric oxide donors in the therapeutic management of vertebrate animals including humans, for the prevention or alleviation of pain, especially neuropathic pain. According to some embodiments of the present invention, furoxan-containing nitric oxide donors are administered by any suitable route so as to provide concentrations of NO that are about 1/2 to 10 -15 of those known to induce vasodilation in normal circulations.
Cette invention porte sur des compositions et des procédés pour induire, favoriser ou au moins faciliter un soulagement de la douleur. Plus particulièrement, la présente invention porte sur l'utilisation de doses sous-normovasodilatatrices de donneurs d'oxyde nitrique contenant du furoxane dans la gestion thérapeutique d'animaux vertébrés comprenant les êtres humains, pour la prévention ou le soulagement des douleurs, notamment les douleurs neuropathiques. Selon certains modes de réalisation de la présente invention, on administre des donneurs d'oxyde nitrique contenant du furoxane par une voie appropriée quelconque de façon à obtenir des concentrations doxyde nitrique qui sont d'environ ½ à 10-15 de celles connues pour induire une vasodilatation dans des circulations normales.
